As we will now enter an extended period of online learning we will be enhancing the online learning program moving forward. This will include more frequent synchronous engagements and wellbeing support. The program will, of course, continue to be delivered through Google Classroom and our tech desk will continue to be available to support during school days from 8 am-5 pm via live video chat, email (email@example.com), or phone (both the video chat information and phone number were previously sent in COVID emails and will be sent again). Please look out for another communication specifically about the learning program later today. You will also see these adjustments through your child’s Google Classroom online experience in the week ahead.

In the last PTA meeting we learned that NIS has a community of 37 different countries! We are proud of our diverse community at our school.
The NIS PTA decided that we would love to celebrate this by putting together a cookbook!! We need all our NIS families to send their personal favorite recipes from their home countries, maybe with photos from the finished dish or even from the steps of you making it. We want the personal touches, so please do not send pictures of recipes from other cookbooks or PDF files. If you want you can include a short paragraph about your recipe and your home country.
Please email your recipes to CookBookNIS@gmail.com by 31st of January 2021. (The deadline is extended) Click HERE to see the example. If you have any questions let me know! The cookbooks will be available for purchase and details regarding price and ordering process will be provided shortly.

Open to all NIS parents.
Please come and share ideas to keep our parent community busy, excited, and connected!
We will plan an exciting online event to enrich our stay-home life by learning about various cultures around the world.
Don't make a language barrier keep you from participating in PTA meetings. Most of us are learning English as we do things in PTA.
As we will not be having any overnight retreats or study trips this year, the school has taken the opportunity to put four days aside in April for all MYP students to work on campus-based projects or projects that are within walking distance. 'Project Week' is hoped to be an exciting opportunity for students to lead initiatives that contribute to communities, local or anywhere in the world. Please respond to email@example.com if you know of, or have contact with, any NPO's or other organizations that NIS students may be able to help. For example, care packages, letters of support, or crafted supplies for example, could help somewhere in the world. Or, perhaps you have a great idea for improving the NIS campus or local Shidami environment. All ideas are welcome!
As a non-profit school, NIS is dependent upon tuition and fees to operate, and like all schools, we need additional support to enrich the services we provide. NIS has been fortunate to enhance the learning environment for all classes by purchasing equipment, technology, and learning materials through the PTA and school fundraising in the past.
One of these traditional events is the NIS Community Raffle, an annual event administered by the PTA and supported by the school. The PTA acquires prizes from within the school community and also from supporting businesses and organizations. Students and parents work hard to sell raffle tickets. The drawing is typically held at a special event, like the Christmas Bazaar, or as was the case in February 2020 - at the first-ever PTA Soirée held at the Hilton Nagoya.
However, due to COVID-19, the NIS Community Raffle is on hold for the foreseeable future, as with many other activities. We hope that this will return as a normal part of the school calendar soon, so please stay tuned!
Thank you for your continued cooperation in our school parking lot.
Please note that the maximum speed limit in the lot is 7 kph. We have noticed some cars driving extremely fast through the lot lately.
Please also note that there is a 10 minute window of time as the buses arrive in the morning and depart in the afternoon when we post a sign requesting drivers to only turn left when exiting the lot. If this is an inconvenience for you, please depart before or after this window of time.
Thank you for your cooperation as we strive to ensure the safety of everyone in our neighborhood.
NIS embraces a vibrant and interactive learning environment which encourages students to become digitally literate, using technology to create, share and celebrate their learning stories. Similarly, staff – and parents – are encouraged to model the skills of digital citizenship. Please go HERE for NIS Social Media Policy.
