On Tuesday, Gr 12 IB Physics and Biology spent the day performing and collecting experimental data for their Internal Assessment (IA), an assessment component worth 20% of their final grade. The investigations they are performing are the product of their own independent research. It is the culmination of the personal construction of knowledge of chemistry concepts, laboratory techniques and independent research skills. Preparing for this day commences in Grade 11 as students follow a practical programme designed to introduce them to new skills and techniques and gain a greater understanding of the scientific report process. In the coming weeks they will complete the analysis of the data collected and draft reports, which will then be refined ready for submission.
