History and Culture

As part of their unit on personal and cultural expression, Gr. 9 and 10 Japanese Language Acquisition Class students have been working together on Padlet by sharing cultural and historical landmarks from their home countries and writing about them in Japanese. These include such places as Machu Picchu in Peru, Ayutthaya in Thailand, and Jongmyo Shrine in Korea. They’ve also talked about the value and importance of historical properties and buildings, and how culture and tradition have impact on our daily lives. Along the way, they learn expressions and vocabulary related to history and culture. On Friday, Gr. 10 students visited Kofun, an ancient tomb from the 5th century, and the nearest historical site to the school. Japanese learning comes alive when students have an opportunity to learn first hand the culture and history of our local community!
