Grade 6 English Language Acquisition students are exploring the connections between stories through a collective exploration of myths, legends, and folktales. As part of their formative assessment task related to Greek myths, they created a modern version of Pandora's Box, demonstrating their own knowledge and understanding of what constitutes as good and evil in the 21st century. Through this activity, they learned brainstorming strategies and primary research skills. The goal was to create open-ended interview questions related to modern day evils, identify keywords from their interview responses and create a list of modern-day evil and hopes. Students created boxes to tempt people in the school community to open them. These boxes were then hidden in plain sight in different locations at school. The Pandoras of the modern world found them, unlocking their hidden secrets.
