• Tuition is charged annually for students starting at the beginning of the school year; students registering mid-year (after the school year begins) are charged tuition quarterly regardless of the start date within the quarter. 
• Tuition refunds are NOT prorated and are granted by semester only.

• Full Application Fee, Registration Fee and Building Fee are non-refundable and charged to all applicable students who attend during the school year, even if they enter late or withdraw early and are NOT prorated.

Below are estimates of additional optional fees or expenses that may be incurred in a typical school year for some students:

• PTA Dues:  ¥5,000  (per family)
• Secondary Overseas Trips (NIS Habitat, Model UN Trips):  ¥100,000-¥200,000 (grades 9-12, estimate for airfare & accommodations)
• Extra OPTIONAL Online IBDP Courses:  ¥50,000-¥60,000 per IB course (grades 11-12)
• Lunch Service:  NIS does not manage the cafeteria - Cezars Kitchen is an outsourced vendor providing exceptional food service for all grades. Prices vary - please go to Cezars Kitchen's website for more information. 

Tuition

• Set set annually in March and are published on the website, tuition is charged annually for students starting at the beginning of the academic school year; Currently enrolled students are invoiced tuition and fees for the following academic school year in April, payable by the end of June.
• Students registering mid-year (after the school year begins) are charged tuition quarterly regardless of the start date within the quarter.
• Refunds are NOT prorated and are granted by semester only.

Fees

• All fees are charged in full, regardless of the enrollment start date or intended length of stay.
• Application Fee: A non-refundable, one-time fee charged to all applying students.
• Registration Fee:  A non-refundable, one-time fee charged to all students entering into grades ELC Kindergarten through grade 12. (i.e. all grades except ELC Preschool)
• Building Fee:  A non-refundable, one-time fee charged to all students entering into grades ELC Kindergarten through grade 12 and earmarked for new building construction.
• Intensive 1:1 Support Fee:  An annual fee charged to students requiring one-on-one support from a dedicated staff member for a significant portion of the school day.
• School Bus Service Fee:  An Annual fee charged to students who register for the bus service. Registered users have first priority for reserved seats. Registered users of Bus #2-#8 may also use Bus #1 at no additional charge.  The NIS Bus Association invoices through NIS and follows the same policies for billing and refunds.
• Summer Program Fee:  A fee charged to students who register for the NIS Summer Program (charged per weekly session)

Explanation of Terms

• Application:  The process of making a formal application for an NIS education. Applications are considered active from the date the form is received at NIS AND the application fee is paid.
• Registration:  The process of confirming a students’ start date at NIS and of holding that place as guaranteed.  
• Enrollment:  The date on which a student formally starts to attend class and is a full, current NIS student.

The Registration Window

Gr. 2-12

    Registration (regardless of the intended date of enrollment within the quarter) opens on the first school day of the previous quarter.  For example, the registration window for an enrollment date of January 31 (in Quarter 3) would open on the first day of Quarter 2.

ELC Preschool 3, ELC Preschool 4, ELC Kindergarten and Grade 1

    Registration to enroll from the beginning of the school year for any of the ELC classes and Grade 1 opens on the first school day of Quarter 2 from the previous school year (i.e. roughly 10 months prior to the school year opening).
    Mid-year registration (after Quarter 1) for ELC classes follow same procedures as the rest of the grades – with the registration window opening on the first school day of the full previous quarter prior to the desired enrollment start.

Advance Purchase

    Companies or families wishing to register an applying student earlier than the registration window can do so provided that they pay any additional tuition for school days in advance of the regular registration window. This rate will be calculated from the date of confirming intention to hold the place.
    The student must have completed the application process, pending the interview. The costs of an advanced purchase placement are fully non-transferable and non refundable.

Pre-Purchase

    Companies wishing to pre-purchase available seats prior to knowing the identities of actual students who will take those seats may do so through a ‘pre-purchase’ agreement.
    The pre-purchase will include all tuition and fees until the end of the academic year and is fully non-refundable and non-transferable. This will support companies who need to secure places in grades or classes prior to knowing which students will fill those places.

 

Newly Registered Students  (Mid-year)

    Invoices are issued at the point of registration for all applicable tuition and fees and payable within 14 days or before enrollment, whichever is earlier. Failure to pay within the terms of the invoice will result in the places being released for other students.
    Payments are fully non-refundable in the case of parent/company initiated withdrawal from registration prior to enrollment. In the case that the school determines the need to cancel registration (e.g. as a result of the admissions interview or other pertinent data received between the point of registration and enrollment) then all tuition and fees (with the exception of the application fee) will be refunded in full.
     

Newly Registered Students  (August start)

    Confirmed students in grades 2-12 starting at the beginning of the school year in August are required to pay a ¥300,000 non-refundable deposit by the previous April 30 as a non-refundable down-payment to ensure registration of their child for a confirmed place.
    Confirmed ELC and grade 1 students starting at the beginning of the school year in August are required to pay a ¥300,000 non-refundable deposit within 14 days of invoicing as a non-refundable down-payment to ensure registration of their child for a confirmed place.
    All students starting in August who have places confirmed after April 17 are required to pay a ¥300,000 non-refundable deposit within 14 days of invoicing.
    In all cases, the remaining tuition and fees must be paid in full by June 30 to retain confirmed registration seat.

Current Enrolled (Returning) Students

    Currently enrolled students are invoiced tuition and fees in April.  A ¥100,000 non-refundable deposit shall be payable by April 30 to guarantee a seat for the following academic year. The remaining tuition and fees is payable by June 30. Should a family not pay their invoice by the date specified, their child’s place may be given to a student on the wait-pool without further notice.

 

The Business Office issues invoices and manages billing and collection of tuition and fees. Payments must be in Japanese Yen and via either bank wire transfer or Direct Debit.

Only the Application Fee can be paid online via credit card through the NIS Admissions Portal (applicants must have applied online).

Installment Option, Direct Debit

Parents can apply to pay tuition and fees in installments by direct debit only.  In total, there will be 10 installment payments made from June to March on the 27th of each month; one-time fees may be included in the installments.  Parents must submit the required documentation to the Business Office by May 20 and pay a ¥20,000 fee (per family).  Parents are responsible for their bank fees.  Families applying and registering students after the May 20 deadline can apply to make payments via Direct Debit, but all installments must be completed by March.

NOTE:  A choice to pay in installments does not alter the overall financial responsibility to pay the fees in full in the event of early withdrawal. It is expected that parents have read and fully understand the withdrawal procedures and policies.

 

Financial Delinquency

• Newly registered students will not be allowed to enroll in class until all tuition and fees have been paid.
• In the event of financial delinquency, school policy prohibits the release of grades, transcripts, letters of reference or other school records. Non-essential trips, sports, ASAs and activities may also be suspended.
• Students whose tuition is outstanding for more than 14 days may be asked to discontinue school attendance until payment is made.
• For late payments, a penalty may be levied against delinquent tuition accounts and will be charged at 1.5% per month of the unpaid balance.
• Refunds will not be made in cases of expulsions or dropouts unless approved by the Head of School in advance.
• All financial obligations made at the beginning of the school year are binding.

 

Withdrawal

• Fees are non-refundable without exception.
• Students who indicate their intention to withdraw from NIS later than June 30 are liable for the full costs of tuition for semester one of the 2018-19 school year.
• Students who indicate their intention to withdraw from NIS later than the last school day of semester one in the 2018-19 school year are liable for the full costs of tuition for semester two of the 2018-19 school year.
• Refunds will not be made in cases of expulsions or dropouts unless approved by the Head of School in advance.
