In Gr. 3, for their "Journeys" unit, students have been interviewing classmates about journeys they have taken, interviewing family members about migrations that family members have undertaken, learning about the first airplane flight in history and were even treated to a visit by Captain Scott who told the students about his journey to the South Pole. Students wanted to experience a journey firsthand however, to see the changes, challenges and opportunities you can experience on a journey. So they set off on a morning journey around the community. Students charted the journey in their inquiry notebooks and took note of their experiences. Upon returning to class, students drew out their journey to write about their experiences in an extended narrative. Moving forward, they will look at individual perspectives, challenges, changes and opportunities that they encountered on the journey.
