Students Meet Mystery Series Author
Posted 09/04/2015 03:08PM
On Thursday, September 3, NIS students in grades 3 to 5 had the opportunity to meet a well-known author of over 60 books, Penny Warner, author of the Code Busters Series. Students had the chance to rehearse using a number of codes to share messages, for example using American Sign Language (ASL) to spell out their names, as well as reading Morse code and semaphore. Warner shared some strategies for overcoming “writer's block” and explained her three-stage approach to writing by developing characters, selecting an inspiring setting, and developing the plot with more than enough problems to satisfy the reader.

Warner also shared a top secret packet of codes with every learner that attended her sessions and presented a set of autographed books to the readers of NIS which are now available for students to sign out.

To help celebrate, the library has a limited number of books on hand to purchase. Getting a personalized copy of a book autographed by the author is a great opportunity for budding readers! Order your child's own copy of the first book in the series by sending an e-mail <Librarian@nis.ac.jp> with your name, your child's name and grade.

Thanks Mrs. Warner!
