Weekend Kids Sports Group
The Weekend Kids Sports group is a parent-led volunteer activity for NIS and ICAN students in grades 1-7. These activities are not an official NIS event, but parent-led, and parents are expected to support these activities. Other students from different schools can join but these activities are meant to provide an opportunity for students who cannot easily participate in sports activities in the local community due to the language barrier so students should have at least a conversational level of English.
- 2:00-3:00 Soccer (outside on the NIS field if weather permits; inside gym if rain)
- 3:00-4:00 Baseball - 3:30 Baseball (outside on the NIS field if weather permits)
- 4:00-5:00 American Flag Football (gridiron)
Beginning baseball students will start with T-Ball, and for experienced players we will do coach pitch (may do kid pitch depending on average age of team)
What is T-Ball?
T-Ball a sport based on baseball intended to introduce young children to the game of baseball. Normally Kindergarten children will start off learning how to play baseball without a pitcher. The ball is placed on a “T” and the batter hits the ball off of the T. The rules are similar to baseball so these kids can “learn” the fundamentals of this sport.
This is the second teaching level of learning baseball. This level normally starts after kids have experienced T-ball; most leagues begin coach pitch with Grade 1. Coach Pitch removes the T during batting, and the Coach (adult) pitches to the batter.
What to bring:
- Soccer: Please bring your own soccer ball, which will be used in drills
- Baseball: Please bring a glove (this is a must), a ball (optional), a bat (optional)
If you are interested in participating or helping with these sporting events for our children in the age range of grades 1 through 5, please email B. Creamer. submit this form. Baseball practice will begin immediately after soccer practice.
